Product Description
This book is written to help adventuresome motorcyclists buy, ride, and enjoy dual sport motorcycles, those versatile machines that are equally at home on the street and in the dirt. It is organized into four sections covering motorcycle selection, setup, riding technique, and specialized activities such as off-road touring and rallies. Several chapters include exercises designed to improve riding and impart new skills. Over 250 full-color photographs illustrate the many options for gear, clothing, and aftermarket accessories which can add comfort, safety, and convenience to any motorcycle adventure. The book also contains many references and sources to orient enthusiasts to the sometimes overwhelming sea of information that is available. New riders will benefit from the clear explanations of dual sport gear, accessories, and techniques, while experienced riders coming to dual sport from a street riding background will find chapters covering advanced dirt riding skills, GPS navigation, and preparing for multi-day trips. Riders at all levels will gain a broader perspective of the dual sport experience, from which they can begin their journey to new motorcycle adventures.

A Must for Dual Sporters...the Dual Sport Bible. November 23, 2008 Ken C. Webb (SEDONA, AZ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Carl has done a remarkable job with this gem of a book. Buying this book could save you from second guessing your readiness on back country excursions as well as this book will give you an added sense of confidence with the potentially gained knowledge from the author's riding insights.
What a gem! November 15, 2008 kevin johnson (nevada, usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very in-depth look at dual-sport motorcycling, much more than I expected. Written by an obviously experienced rider, who has a great way of sharing lots of hard-earned knowledge to us neophytes. There's lots of solid technical information, which is given in easy-to-understand descriptions. The author's thorough understanding of all facets of how the bike works, and of how the rider uses the bike as a tool for enjoyment of our natural surroundings, really comes through. I can't think of anything that's not covered, and covered well, by this book. Excellent job!
Well worth the Price ! November 13, 2008 J. Phillips 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Essential Guide to Dual Sport Motorcycling contains all the information you need to select, equip ride, and enjoy the world's most versatile motorcycles. It's comprehensive, fun to read, filled with great photos, includes a foreword by Malcolm Smith, and the author is donating his royalties to the Pediatric Brain Tumor foundation. What's not to like? If you have any interest in dual sport or just want a good insight into off road motorcycling, this book is well worth the price.
A Great Resource November 13, 2008 Mark Stephan (Denver, CO) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Essential Guide to Dual Sport Motorcycling is a terrific resource. Off road riders who don't race are virtually ignored by the motorcycle press and often have difficulty getting the information they need to select the best bike, set it up and ride it. The Guide covers almost every aspect of non-competitive off road riding. It's filled with useful information, fun anecdotes and great pictures. This book is must reading whether you are a veteran off roader, new to dual sport, or just curious about it.
Fantastic fully rounded book November 4, 2008 John Austin (Reno NV USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is absolutely fantastic. A great overview of all the things that go into dual sport riding. In my opinion, this is the single best source for Dual Sport riding bar-none. You will not regret buying this book.
