4 out of 5 stars Very sexy, very sweet second chance at love   December 20, 2008

Book was sweet and sexy. The hero is a nice guy, great body, and hot. The heroine is a widow with 2 kids, and a bit insecure about her body. But they have lots of great chemistry. The story is very heart warming and nicely developed. Very good read. The minor characters are strong, and will have 2 more books with them starring.

Widow Tamara Briggs has no doubts that bringing her dull and boring date to a racing fundraiser was a mistake. She knows as well that there is no way she is going to spend the night either in Mr. Boring's bed or his hotel room. Not watching where she is going, Tamara runs into one of the most handsome men she has ever seen. When he seems to flirt with her, Tamara's heart pounds and she can't help but be entranced. But, that is all that it can be - attraction. Tamara, as a single mother, has two children to raise and take care of and she refuses to allow herself to become so in love with a man that nothing else matters. She should have told Elec Monroe this to start with because once he sets his sites on Tamara, nothing is going to stand in his way.

Elec Monroe knows he has no business cozying up to Mrs. Briggs. Her husband was one of his boyhood heroes. Elec is instantly enamored of the beautiful woman as soon as he meets her and when a fellow driver asks Elec to accompany Tamara to his bus for her to crash out for the night Elec figures he can do that without making a move of the beautiful woman. Figures is all relative once Elec and Tamara kiss. Then it's all over but choosing the wedding music. That is, if Tamara can handle being involved with another race car driver.

Flat-Out Sexy made me sweat. It made me want to watch racing. It EVEN made me want to get one of those coveralls. Ok. It might not have made ME want one but it definitely made me want to see Elec out of his. His personality and attractiveness grabbed me from the first scene of Flat-Out Sexy and didn't let go. His love and affection for Tamara, and her children, was over the top hot and manly. Tamara was the more scared of the two main characters. Her first husband died as a result of a race car accident during a race. The dangerousness of Elec's job scared Tamara and while I could tell she loved him unconditionally in her heart, her mind often talked her out of wise decisions where Elec is concerned.

Don't miss Flat-Out Sexy. Elec's charm will win you over and his sex appeal will make you shake. Erin McCarthy continues to be one of my favorite authors.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to read and extremely enjoyable   December 9, 2008

After the death of her thrill seeking race car driver husband, Tamara Briggs decided to step out of the fast lane and try something a little dependable. A little safer. So when she takes her safe and dependable new date to a weekend racecar function she's predictably bored out of her mind. She's busy thinking up ways to escape her excruciatingly dull and boring date when she knocks into the hottest thing on two legs and spills red wine down his shirt. Trust me, best damn thing she ever did. Elec Monroe happens to agree and before Tamara knows what's happening she and Elec are rolling around having a grand ol time. Looks like the weekend wasn't such a waste after all. The next morning, Tamara thinks to kiss and cuddle and say goodbye, sure that this was just a fun one night stand but he has different ideas. Tired of wasting his time with airheaded bimbos and even though she confuses him with her "yes, no, maybe so" attitude, he's not letting her get away from him that easy. He might be what she fears, another racecar driver, and he might be seven years younger than her, but he's also exactly what she needs. A lover, a friend, and great husband.

First off, let me congratulate the creators of the cover of this book. Bravo on a job well done. :P

This was such a beautiful and sweet story. It's got a lot of sex, (duh) but it was also one of the sweetest stories I've ever read and it's chock full of awwwwww worthy moments. Elec (who is a southern boy even though his name sounds like he should be Italian) is obviously God's gift to women and Tamara Briggs is the lucky woman who gets to bang his brains out in Romanceland. He's so adorable and he's completely perfect. Tamara was also a wonderful character. Brave and mature and if she wasn't one hundred percent confident in herself, at least she was willing to try and fake it. She had the loving support and friendship of a great group of characters and I can't wait to indulge in some of their stories, one of which is coming next year in early 2009. Even though Tamara is older than Elec, this isn't a Mrs. Robinson-type story. He actually teaches her a few tricks, especially making her open up and embrace the body that motherhood gave her, and he wipes away any lingering doubts she had over her perceived flaws. What was supposed to be just sex (in her mind) quickly became a full time relationship with Elec embracing her family. He never thought he would have a family of his own, so the added addition of her children was a treat for him. A welcome bonus in his love for Tamara. The two kids don't fade into the background either. They are very much in the forefront, as it should be, and while Tamara and Elec try and make time for themselves as much as they can, children have a way of demanding attention, and in the context of this story, I loved it. Whenever they were together as a family, my heart just melted, and I became a great big puddle of goo.

The humor was also a great treat for me. It was a little bit snarky, a little bit irreverent, and a whole lot adorable. This was a fabulous, simply sweet romance that I recommend for any woman. This was a beautiful little love story between a woman and two little kids, and the man that swept them off their feet. *sigh*

What a yummy cover. I expected this book to be a fun, hot little number, but it was just so much more. Flat-Out Sexy is a modern day fairy tale and Elec is a modern day Prince Charming! Elec and Tamara are two very likable characters, who you find yourself cheering for their HEA, while some complications are thought through by Tamara. While the escapades are very, very hot (satisfaction guaranteed), this story is relationship driven and all the characters involved you come to care for. This is book one in a Racing Series, all I can say is that I hope it's the beginning of a 12 book series! The next book in the series is Hard and Fast. It will be released in May 2009 and will be the story of Imogen and Ty. She is Tamara's up tight assistant, he's the Godfather of Tamara's daughter and a playboy racecar driver. The preview in the back of the book makes me think May is a long time away!

This is my first Erin McCarthy book, and I think I have another author to gobble up their backlist!!! Thank you Ms. McCarthy for a book I cannot part with!
