Easy to clean, the Klean Kanteen water bottles can be put in the dishwasher, or washed by hand with a brush and mild soap. Klean Kanteens come in sizes to meet the needs of the entire family. The 12 and 18-ounce containers are designed specifically for kids. In bottles designed for small hands, the 12 and 18 ounce bottles are available with sippy cup lid adapters along with the other sports cap options, and weigh just 6 and 8 ounces respectively. Adult sized 27 and 40 ounce Kanteens weigh just 8 and 11 ounces respectively, and are available with a choice polypropylene or steel caps. The openings are large enough to fit ice cubes, and the slim bottle design fits in most cup and bottle holders. Klean Kanteen water bottles are available with a variety of sports caps made with non-leaching polypropylene #5 or stainless steel. The sport, flat, and loop caps are interchangeable and fit all 12-, 18-, 27-, and 40-ounce stainless steel bottles securely. Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel?
Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory. Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen?
No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame. Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer?
We do not recommend it and it will void the one-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Can I put my Kanteen on a stove?

 Overall a good water bottle January 7, 2009

I like this bottle very much, except it is pretty wide. It will not fit in the cup holder of my car. Besides that I am happy with how it keeps my water cool for a long period of time, and the amount of water it holds lasts me all day long.

I have used this for a couple of months now, and feel I can speak with confidence.
There is an initial 'off' smell and taste that regular dish soap doesn't kill. A few denture fizzies and an overnight soak, then all is well.
I use this daily for my tea, 6 days a week. No staining, no lingering odors or flavours. I have dropped it several times, ranging from empty to full, on tile and carpeted concrete with no denting, cracking, cap-loosening, or leaking of any kind.
I recently bought a second one in case of long road-trips.
An odd thing: this is not an insulated bottle but, kept out of the sun, the contents stay cool / cold for a surprisingly long time.

Man, what I would give for that kind of rating in any category.
After listening to a speech given by a Toastmaster member, reminding me of "Endocrine Disruptors" and leaching Bisphenol A (BPA) which can occur while endlessly reusing plastic water bottles, I decided to pay attention and search for a better option. I had purchased a Camelbak, supposedly healthier, non-leaching hard-plastic bottle, a few years ago. It's okay, I'm not crazy about the built-in straw feature and it seems a bit unwieldy size-wise and sometimes downright slippery!
The KK is darling! I just got it, I like the feel of it, sort of satiny, goes well with my satin-finish chrome bathroom fixtures!
I had wanted to know that the "science" for this item was reliable and trustworthy. Amazon.com describes the metal "sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content." Having no idea what 304 stainless steel is, I am trusting that this type is anti-leach and the "low nickel" content is incidental to my overall well-being.
My 27oz. KK w/sport cap arrived with a slight scratch, initially I wanted to report it, then I decided it added character and I let it go. The scratch does not affect the water taste or good looks or sleek lines, certainly it won't impact the quality of my life or create those nasty BPAs to taint my drinking water.
For now, I am happy with the Klean Kanteen and recommend trying one for yourself and stop reusing those leachy plastics, please!

I have the smaller version and never had a problem w/ leaks, but w/ this one, even w/ the sippy part pushed down and the cap on, it still leaks.
Also, it's worth buying the overpriced neophrene holder, since if you drop the bottle it'll ding/dent.

I wated to give practical gifts that had meaning to the environment. I chose the Kleen Kanteen Statinless Steel Water Bottle after looking at other products because of the size and cap offered at a competitive price. I ordered 10 bottles, and they were delivered within days of the order. Everyone has been very satisfied, including myself. It is easy to clean, easy to carry and I know I am not contributing to the plastic bottle waste.
