Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel?
Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory. Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen?
No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame. Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer?
We do not recommend it and it will void the one-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Can I put my Kanteen on a stove?

My expectations were very high for this bottle and were unfortunately not met. I'm sure it's perfect for some people and their uses. My use is at the gym primarily while running on the treadmill.
The sport cap makes an annoying draining sound when you use it and I am constantly banging it on my teeth. I've found a good angle to hold it so that this happens less often, but still annoying.
I have the 40oz red one and I'm tired of everyone asking me "what is that? A fire extinguisher?".
On the treadmill, the bottle's large girth means it fit awkwardly into either the ledge or onto the pocket (depending on which treadmill you're using).
Pros: the water tastes great and the metal keeps it cold for a long time. The sport is smart but a little ill-designed. Eager for the next version.

Bought this after I had purchased 2 for my Wife and Son. It works great around the house and for car trips. I like that it has a large mouth so ice can be put in it. Also, the sports cap, although noisy, makes it easy to drink from and pretty much spill proof.

Excellent bottle, I'm super-pleased with mine! The regular cap I got is solid, no spills. The sports cap makes some funny noises, which I also enjoy in most settings. Lots of accessories for you bottle-accessory-lovers out there!

I was expecting a much better product. Although it met my needs regarding size and environmental impact, it is made of poor stainless steel material (another poorly made product from China). After a couple of uses, the water has a metallic taste. No telling what it is I am really drinking as there is no way of knowing what is leaching into my water. I will be recycling this! Very disappointed and I will be using a glass from now on. I cannot recommend this product at all.

This is a great sports bottle. Very easy to clean. The water tastes like it should, it does not take on the flavor of the bottle. One thing...do not freeze water in it. I did that and it deformed my bottle, causing the bottom to bulge out. My mistake. I like this bottle so much I bought another, smaller one to fit in the cup holders on my truck. I still use them both. I see no signs of wear other than paint chipping on the frozen bottle, to be expected.
